Im still loving my fun & edgy cut from my hair guru Briana Cisneros…
This time around, We decided to take it easy, by just adding some baby highlights around my face and popping some thru the ends!..Thanks to olaplex my hair is in great condition. (if you are thinking of going blonde or want to keep your hair healthy olaplex is a must!) If your a hair addict like I am, then you obviously know changing your hair all the time requires ALOT of TLC.
I have been super blonde for a year now, I love the volume, thickness and brightness that comes along with it, BUT keeping it healthy and strong can be a challenge! espcially if you love the ocean and being outside as much as I do. Here are a few products I personally use to keep my blonde from fading into brass and keeping it silky smooth.
What is your favorite part about the holidays? My personal fave is cooking delicious recipes with my Grandma Betty and Aunt connie ! Nothing is better than spending quality time with family, and what better way to do so than to recreate a family tradition that is 7 generations in the making?
This particular recipe I want to share with you all makes my families 7th Generation Pfeffernusse German Christmas Cookies! In English, it translates to ‘peppernuts,’ which might sound weird, but I promise they are unbelievably delicious. This recipe has been passed down generation to generation from my Great Grandma Paye, who is Grandma Betty’s mother, so it is a blessing to make them with Grandma Betty and Aunt Connie every Christmas season!
Everyone in my family is OBSESSED with these, so I hope you enjoy them as much as we do. Oh, and before I forget, happy holidays to you and your family:)
7th Generation Pfeffernusse German Christmas Cookies Prep time: 30 Minutes Cook time: 10 Minutes Ready in: 40 Minutes (Excluding dough resting time) About 4 Servings
What You’ll Need: 1 1/2 Cup White Sugar 1 Cup Brown or Dark Karo Syrup 1/2 Cup or 1 Stick Unsalted Butter or Margarine, Softened 1 Cup Crisco Shortening Stick 1 Cup Sour Milk (See below on how to make sour milk) 1 Extra Large Egg 1 Teaspoon Baking Soda 1 Teaspoon Ground Cloves 1 Teaspoon Ground Nutmeg 1 Teaspoon Cinnamon 6 to 6 1/2 Cups All Purpose Flour 1/2 Teaspoon Salt 4 Heaping Teaspoons Anise Seed (Grind in spice grinder or by hand using a mortar and pestle)
How To Make Sour Milk: 1. In a glass measuring cup, combine 1 tablespoon of distilled white vinegar with whole milk to equal 1 cup total. 2. Stir. 3. Let stand for 15 minutes until it begins to curdle.
What To Do: 1. In a large bowl, blend the sugar, syrup, butter (or margarine) with a mixer on medium speed. 2. Once smooth, beat egg into mixture. 3. Add in sour milk and mix. 4. In a separate bowl, mix flour, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, salt, and ground anise together. (I usually sift or stir these ingredients with a whisk) 5. Combine flour mixture with butter mixture; 2 cups at a time, stir to mix, until well blended. (If dough feels sticky, add a little more flour) 6. Refrigerate dough overnight. 7. Once the dough has rested overnight, heat the oven to 350° F. 8. Remove 1/4 of the dough from the refrigerator and keep the rest chilled. (Cold dough is easier to work with) 9. Lightly flour a cutting board and roll the dough into a long, snake-like design with the thickness equaling the tip of your index finger. Cut the roll into 1/4″ slices. 10. Cover a baking sheet with a silpat baking mat (or parchment paper) and place the cookies on the sheet 1” apart. 11. Bake for 10 minutes until golden brown. 12. Repeat process until all of the dough is gone.
Viola! Delicious, crunchy cookies that pair well with a warm cup of coffee or tea! I hope you all enjoy.
I have some AMAZING news to share with you all! It has been incredibly difficult keeping my mouth shut on this one because all I’ve wanted to do is shout it from the rooftops! But, now that my doctor has given me the OK, it is safe to announce that…. I’m PREGGERS!!!:) You guys don’t even understand how hard this was to keep a secret, but my family and close friends did a good job of hiding the news, which made it a little bit easier.
It started with me not feeling too well — I didn’t feel sick, but I definitely knew something was off between my mood swings and lack of energy. So, I took the test and TA-DA! I couldn’t even believe my eyes. I called Corey upstairs to make sure I wasn’t just seeing things and, well, let’s just say that he had a permanent smile glued to his face for the rest of the night!
The difficult thing was that we were going to a dinner party, and I knew I had to keep it a secret, so I told everyone I was on a detox cleanse to cover my lack of alcohol consumption. With the combination of my poor lying skills and Corey’s perma-smile, we were given ‘the look’ over and over again by our friends and family, so it’s safe to say the secret was not a secret much longer!
So far, I haven’t had any morning sickness, I just feel very tired and like I have a major hangover when I wake up, which is a change for me because I’m constantly on-the-go! As far as finding out the sex of the baby…We just want it to be healthy:) Girl or boy, we will be ecstatic either way! Corey’s mum wants it to be a surprise, but I don’t know if I’ll be able to wait! I guess we will just have to wait and see. God has a plan for us, and even though it is all happening so fast, I am confident that I’m ready to be a mama!
Keep checking back here for more updates!:) And thank you so much for the support, love, and congratulations. You guys are amazing!
I am seriously obsessed with skin care products!! When I traveled to Korea, one of the main things I noticed is that all of the women had the most beautiful skin. No joke — women that were 50 looked like they were 30! I was so intrigued, so I began doing a little investigating and wanted to share my detective results with you all
What I learned is that Korean women have beautiful skin because they use one secret ingredient on a daily basis: Sesame Oil! It might sound a little strange, but it really does work. One woman I met explained that white sesame oil is good for skin and black sesame oil is beneficial to your hair (Fun fact!). So be sure to stock up on the sesame oil!
Also, they try and stay out of the sun and use Korean sunblock to protect their skin!
Another thing I noticed is that they eat extremely healthy — Lots of vegetables, soups, and garlic! Another infamous Korean cuisine includes pig and chicken feet! It sounds gross, I know. But, the collagen in the the feet do wonders with your skin and keep it looking young.
How could I go to Korea and not hit up the beauty stores?! I discovered these amazing face masks! Just like face sheets, there is one for every type of skin: skin pigmentation, acne, wrinkles, hydration — I was amazed!
Koreans are taught at a young age to take care of their skin, which is probably why they have such perfect, blemish-free skin. I can tell you right now, to achieve beautiful Korean skin, you’re going to need more than just a cleanser and moisturizer! To keep it manageable, I narrowed down a beauty routine from 30 products to 8:
1) Wash your face twice! (Once to remove the makeup and another to rid the oil and make the skin look radiant)
3) Then you exfoliate! (I exfoliate once a day)
4) TONER!! (Some of the Korean woman even carried around toners in their purse!)
5) Essence time (This is basically like a serum either filled with vitamins and everything good for your skin. My skin soaks it up like a sponge!)
6) Moisturizer (I prefer a light moisturizer since the essence is so hydrating)
8) Eye cream
Lastly, I learned that Korean woman do facial masks or sheets twice a week! I stocked up on my sheets, they are all natural and smell amazing.
I have put together a list of my favorite Korean products that will keep your skin young, healthy, and glowing! (Use these products in addition to a healthy diet for the best results… just like the book: YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT! It’s so true…
